“2 Days in the Sahara: A Journey to Merzouga’s Dunes and Desert Magic”Day 1: Marrakech to Merzouga (Sahara Desert)
7:00 AM – Depart from Marrakech
Your journey begins with a pickup from your accommodation in Marrakech. A comfortable 4×4 vehicle will take you on an exciting drive towards the Sahara Desert. The road trip will take approximately 8-9 hours, but it’s an unforgettable journey through the Atlas Mountains and the Tizi n’Tichka pass.
Along the way, you’ll pass Ait Benhaddou (a UNESCO World Heritage site), a famous kasbah featured in many films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
Stop here to explore and take some photos of the beautiful mud-brick architecture.
Lunch in Ouarzazate
After passing through the scenic landscapes, you’ll stop for a lunch break in Ouarzazate (the “Gateway to the Sahara”), known for its film studios and the Taourirt Kasbah.
Arrival in Merzouga
In the late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Merzouga, the small desert town where your desert adventure begins. This is where you’ll prepare for your camel trek.
Camel Trek to the Desert Camp
At sunset, board your camels for a ride into the desert. The journey will take about 1.5 hours, leading you to your luxury desert camp nestled in the dunes of the Erg Chebbi.
As you approach the camp, you’ll be greeted by the sight of towering golden dunes. The camp is a traditional Berber tent setup with comfortable bedding, providing an authentic yet cozy desert experience.
Dinner & Stargazing
After dinner, enjoy the tranquility of the desert. You can stargaze under the vast desert sky, far from any light pollution. The view of the stars is nothing short of magical.
Day 2: Return to Marrakech
Morning in the Draa Valley
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the valley, and take some time to explore the nearby area or visit the Kasbahs.
Drive Back to Marrakech
After breakfast, you’ll continue your drive back to Marrakech. The journey will take approximately 7-8 hours, with a break for lunch on the way.
Arrival in Marrakech
You will arrive in Marrakech by late evening, and be dropped off at your hotel, where you can unwind after an incredible desert adventure.
